Services Available at the TechACCESS Center
How can TechACCESS help me? TechACCESS of RI is a private,
not for profit resource center that serves people with disabilities
who are interested in assistive technology. Assistive Technology
is any device which helps a person with a disability function
better at home, work, school, or in the community. Information
and Referral Services regarding assistive technology are available
anytime by calling the Center. Anyone may obtain information
on assistive technology products, funding, services, etc. at
no charge. Referrals are made to service providers, vendors,
protection and advocacy services, etc. You may reach the Center

SERVICES
There are times set aside each week for individuals
to come in and take advantage of the resources at the TechACCESS
Center. Check the calendar in the TechACCESSory for more details.
Center Previews - Designed to present an overview of the TechACCESS
Center. These sessions are ideal for small groups of professionals
who are interested in seeing the Center and learning about
what services and resources are available at TechACCESS. These
sessions will not address individual assistive technology needs,
and will not demonstrate devices.

Public Demonstrations are offered several times monthly (refer
to the calendar for details). Each week the focus is on a different
type of technology solution (i.e. low vision access, blind
access, alternate access, augmentative communication). These
sessions will present an overview of a specific type of technology
and are not designed to address individual assistive technology
needs.

Vendor Demonstrations - Regularly, vendors are invited to TechACCESS
to demonstrate a specific piece of technology. Call if you
would like to know what's coming up or check the calendar of
events in the TechACCESSory. We welcome suggestions for vendor
demonstrations- let us know if there is something you are interested
in seeing.

Member Hours - Members of TechACCESS may come and use equipment
and resources with limited assistance from an Assistive Technology
Trainer. These sessions are designed for self-learning. See
membership form or call the Center for details.

After School Tech Time - Selected Thursday afternoons
are set aside for students, parents, and educational professionals
to try out equipment or software. These sessions are designed
for demonstration and trial use only and are not individual
evaluation sessions. TechACCESS staff will not make formal
recommendations. Appointments are required.

Trainings and Workshops - Selected in-depth trainings are offered
during the year on assistive technology issues and specific
technology/devices. Most sessions are offered at no charge
and are announced in the TechACCESSory. Some sessions limit
the number of attendees and pre-registration is required.

Fee-for-service - Qualified, trained professionals offer consultation,
training and assistive
technology assessment services for computer access and
augmentative communication on a fee-for-service basis. Call
