TechACCESS, Your Public Library and You

TechACCESS Special Projects staff, Marie Younkin Waldman, has presented technology demonstrations to the public, set up displays of personal communication devices and distributed literature to 17 libraries around the state during 2002-2001. The displays in the libraries were exhibited for a full month and culminated with Marie's presentation on tools for personal communication.

Marie worked with the library directors or coordinators to publicize the programs in local newspapers and with posters within the libraries. At the Cumberland library presentation, Marie was surprised by a reporter from the Providence Journal. The reporter wrote an article on the program which featured several photos of the event and information about TechACCESS.

In the future, displays of devices and literature will be set up at eight more libraries in the area. To find out where, called Beverly at 401-463-0202. To complement these displays, the public is invited to attend Marie's workshops on personal communication devices the fourth Monday of each month at the TechACCESS Center.

TechACCESS and the Department of Health have made a video of personal communication devices available at many Rhode Island libraries. If you are unable to attend the demonstration but would like information on tools for personal communication, check out the video. Call your library to see if they have a copy.
