Workshops

Location: All workshops, unless otherwise noted, will take place at TechACCESS in Warwick, RI. Click here for directions.
Registration: All participants must pre-register for workshops by calling TechACCESS of RI at 401-463-0202. Space is limited, and requests for attendance will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
Payment: Payment is due to TechACCESS of RI at the time of registration. We accept Visa, MasterCard, checks, or Purchase Orders. Registration is considered confirmed only after payment is received. Sorry, we cannot process refunds.
Cancellation: TechACCESS of RI reserves the right to cancel any workshop with less than 6 registered participants. In the event that TechACCESS cancels a workshop, the registration fee will be credited toward a future workshop.
PDCs: Professional Development Credits (PDCs) from the RI Department of Education will be offered for all workshops.

It's Apptastic! Finding Apps for Middle and High School Students March 1 3:30 - 5:30 This workshop will explore ways to identify and find the best apps for middle school and high school students. We will explore the areas of writing, reading, math, science, social studies, organization, and note taking. $30 Member Rate $24
Adapted Book: Feelings By Susan Canizares March 7 4:00 - 6:00 This hands-on workshop allows participants to create a modified book using Boardmaker symbols. Theme-related extension activities and implementation ideas are also provided. $35 Member Rate $28
Be Inspired with Inspiration 9 March 8 3:30 - 5:30 Inspiration 9 software allows users to create visual maps and outlines that can be easily transferred to a word processor. Version 9 now contains Inspiration's Presentation Manager, which allows educators to transform diagrams, mind maps and outlines into presentations for their students. This workshop will provide an overview of key features of this dynamic software program. $30 Member Rate $24
Boardmaker 6 FULL DAY Workshop March 23 8:30 - 3:00 Participants will learn how to draw, label, spray, and manipulate buttons, search for symbols, use colors, customize and create new symbols, use right click menus, and use other basic features of Boardmaker 6. Participants will also learn how to use the symbolate tool, moveable buttons, and explore the new speech options of Boardmaker 6 Plus to create interactive language and lesson materials. $150 Member Rate $120
The iPad as an Educational Tool FULL DAY WORKSHOP March 30 8:30 - 3:00 This comprehensive workshop includes discussion of the following topics: iTunes basics; identifying the most efficient ways to search for apps and find FREE apps; managing and organizing your apps; how to set Restrictions; Accessibility Options of the iPad; Tips and Tricks; the best accessories and hardware for your iPad; how to make a stylus; identifying potential obstacles; and demonstration of a variety of apps.
Attendees must have the latest iPad operating system installed before attending.

Accessible Reading: Adobe Reader X and Adobe Digital Additions April 5 3:30 - 5:30 Explore these free software options with us! Adobe Reader X is free software you can use to read and access the information contained within PDF files. Adobe Reader X contains many capabilities specifically designed to make it easier for people with disabilities to read PDF files, regardless of whether the files have been optimized for accessibility. Adobe Digital Editions software allows users to view and manage eBooks and other digital publications. $30 Member Rate $24
Exploring Tablet Technologies April 26 3:30 - 5:30 This introductory workshop will explore the features of tablet technologies that run on the Android platform and the Windows 7 platform. We will demonstrate the features of these devices, Accessibility Options and the process for obtaining apps. A variety of apps will be demonstrated. $30 Member Rate $24
Adapted Book: Lemonade for Sale By Stuart J. Murphy May 2 3:30 - 5:30 This hands-on workshop allows participants to create a modified book using Boardmaker symbols. Theme-related extension activities and implementation ideas are also provided. $35 Member Rate $28
Low Tech Tools for Learning and Communicating May 10 3:30 - 5:30 This workshop will provide an overview of low tech devices that can be used in the classroom and at home to support learning and communication. Devices explored will include: switch access for the computer and the environment, alternate computer access, low tech visual supports and single message communication devices. $30 Member Rate $24
